Sales and Finance Analytics Project for AtliQ Hardware

AtliQ Hardware, a major player in the hardware industry, is looking to boost sales and improve profit margins.

To tackle this challenge, I’ve rolled up my sleeves and dived into a massive dataset—over half a million sales records—to uncover valuable insights. These insights will empower AtliQ Hardware to make smarter decisions and focus on key metrics that drive their success, such as sales volume and profitability.

The dashboard showcases:

Metrics: Gross Margin, Total COGS, Net Sales, and YOY (Year-over-Year) change percentages.
Comparative Analysis: Year-on-year performance trends across markets and segments, including detailed P&L breakdowns.
Interactive Features: Users can filter data by time periods (quarterly, yearly), regions, and product segments for tailored insights.
Visualization: Dynamic graphs and tables to track Net Sales growth and regional contributions over time.
Tools & Technologies:

What I did:
Created a Database:
Designed and set up a new database called bank_transactions to store transaction records for two years (2022 and 2023).
Developed Tables:
fact_transactions_2022 and fact_transactions_2023: Stored transaction details including debit amounts, merchant IDs, and descriptions.
dim_merchants: Held merchant data with IDs, names, and industry segments.
dim_category: Contained product category information linked to transactions.
dim_date: Stored date-related information such as year, month, and day names.
Inserted Data:
Added sample transaction data, merchant records, and category details to populate the tables, ensuring a variety of data types like VARCHAR, DECIMAL, and DATE.
SQL Queries:
Basic Queries: Practiced writing basic SQL queries to select data, retrieve all records, and filter specific results.
Data Integrity: Ensured that the relationships between tables (e.g., between fact_transactions and dim_merchants) were properly structured using IDs

Project Details

AtliQ Grands owns multiple five-star hotels across India. They have been in the hospitality industry for the past 20 years. Due to strategic moves from other competitors and ineffective decision-making in management, AtliQ Grands are losing its market share and revenue in the luxury/business hotels category. As a strategic move, the managing director of AtliQ Grands wanted to incorporate “Business and Data Intelligence” to regain their market share and revenue. However, they do not have an in-house data analytics team to provide them with these insights.
Their revenue management team had decided to hire a 3rd party service provider to provide them with insights from their historical data.

Atliq Hardware is a leading manufacturer of computer hardware in India and other nations, but it struggles to make prompt and wise choices based on data. The management intends to add more junior data analysts to the data analytics team. Tony Sharma, the head of data analytics, conducts a SQL challenge to identify applicants with both technical and soft skills.
