The project involved analyzing box office revenue data within the movie industry using SQL to extract insights. The analysis focused on querying large datasets related to movie earnings, release dates, genres, and performance metrics.

SQL query that uses a CASE statement & a JOIN clause to retrieve financial information about Bollywood movies from 2 tables: movies and financials.

Project Details

Key aspects of this project included Complex queries that joined multiple tables, aggregated revenue data, and filtered by industry type or financial units (Thousands, Billions). Managing large datasets (>1 million records) to extract meaningful insights from real-world data. Analysis focused on profitability, genre performance, and trends within different film industries.
Key Learnings:
🔹 SQL Basics: Mastered key commands like SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, etc.
🔹 Joins: Applied various join types (LEFT, RIGHT, INNER, FULL, CROSS) to combine related data.
🔹 Advanced SQL: Gained experience using subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), views, and temporary tables.
🔹 ETL Processes: Understood the concepts of data warehousing, OLAP vs OLTP, and data transformation workflows.
🔹 Stored Procedures & Functions: Used User Defined Functions (UDFs) and stored procedures to automate complex queries.
🔹 Window Functions: OVER, ROW_NUMBER, RANK, DENSE_RANK, etc.

Project Details

In this project, I performed a comprehensive analysis of hotel revenue data to assess financial performance and identify key trends. The analysis involved collecting data on room rates, bookings, occupancy, and total revenue. I developed over 30 DAX measures to calculate critical financial metrics, including Average Daily Rate (ADR), Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR), occupancy rate, and several others. These metrics were crucial for evaluating the hotel’s profitability and operational efficiency. The project also focused on identifying seasonal trends, peak booking periods, and formulating strategies for improved revenue management within the hotel industry. Key learnings from this project included the ability to build complex DAX measures, conduct seasonal and trend analysis to pinpoint revenue opportunities, and derive actionable insights related to profitability and operational efficiency.
