You have seen how a dbt project is put together. Reading the structure is one thing, watching your own models appear in Snowflake is another. This is the session where you build it.

This is the second session in the dbt series. We will work in a real project connected to your own Snowflake account, moving through the layers in order: load the raw data, tidy it in staging, combine it in intermediate, then serve it from marts. Along the way you will test your models and open the lineage graph that shows how everything connects.

Setup is required for this session. Please finish it before you join so we can start building straight away.

What we'll cover

🔹 Confirm your connection with dbt debug, then load the example data with dbt seed
🔹 How sources point dbt at your raw tables, and what dbt parse checks before you build
🔹 Build the layers in order: staging, then intermediate, then marts, using dbt run with select
🔹 Run dbt test on your models, and read what a failing test is actually telling you
🔹 Generate the docs and lineage graph, then run the whole project in one go with dbt build
