Your code lives in a folder on your laptop. There is a working version, a version with the fix, and a version you are afraid to delete. Git is how you stop guessing.

This session starts from the beginning. You will see what Git actually does, make your first commits, and put a project on GitHub where you can share it. We will go slowly and keep it practical, so by the end you will be comfortable with the few commands you will use every day.

Complete the short setup below before you join, so you are ready from the first minute.

What we'll cover

๐Ÿ”น What Git is, what GitHub is, and why they are two different things
๐Ÿ”น Starting a repository and saving your work with commits
๐Ÿ”น Pushing your project to GitHub, and pulling it back down
๐Ÿ”น Doing all of this from inside VS Code, without memorising commands
๐Ÿ”น Using .gitignore so passwords and large data files never reach your repository

Before you join: complete your setup

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ To follow along live, you will need a GitHub account, Visual Studio Code, and Git installed on your machine. The setup guide walks you through all three, and takes about 20 minutes:
